The Adams' Grammar School Development Fund and how you can help
 350th Development Fund Appeal

For nearly 350 years Adams' Grammar School has offered free education of the highest standard to able pupils from a range of social and economic backgrounds.  The academic, cultural and sporting achievements of the school have gone from strength to strength.  Virtually all of our students go on to higher education, many taking their places at the country's top Universities.  Our Founder, Haberdasher William Adams would be justly proud to see the school today.

To see so many people helping the School move forward is something of which William Adams would also be proud.  The 350th Development Appeal has shown us that Trusts, the Haberdashers' Company, Governors, Parents, Old Novaportans and other friends of the school do wish to contribute to its future development.

The Adams' Grammar School Development Fund is vital in helping to fund future capital developments for which Government Funding is not available.

Plans

Rebuilding our Music Department (1st Phase) Sports Pavilion (2nd Phase)
All-Weather Pitch (3rd Phase)

During previous refurbishment works, structural problems were identified in a section of our music building and it was subsequently condemned as unsound and had to be demolished.

We wish to rebuild this section to form a new Adams' Grammar School Music Department with enhanced modern facilities in the light of developments available in music technology.

We applied for emergency government funding, but this was deemed only to be available if the school completely ceased to offer music teaching.  Music is a vital part of school life so this option would never be considered. a temporary classroom helps the situation at the moment in the short term; however, it is crucial that our facilities are restored as a matter of urgency.

350th Anniversary Appeal

In order to achieve the above and our plans to re-build our Music Department the 350th Anniversary Appeal was set up.  We have received a contribution from Garfield Weston Foundation, The Haberdashers' Company, Governors, Parents and Old Novaportans which has helped us reach over half way to our target of £435,000.00.

The new Music Department will offer:

Specific Computer Lab with composition software

Sound proof practice rooms for individual/instrumental /vocal tuition.

Large rehearsal room for choir/orchestra/ensemble practices

Display area in foyer for pupils to work

Secure instrument store and access to library catalogue of music

New Pavillion at Longford - Our current Pavillion is old and of low specification.  We aim to replace it with one with new and better facilities.

All Weather Pitch at Longford  - This would be a wonderful facility for year round use for a whole variety of sports.

Any support you are able to give, however large or small, would be most gratefully received. You will be included in our commemorative book of donors if you so wish and will receive progress reports and be invited to join us to mark important stages of our Development Programme.

 Ways to give........

Gift Aid Donations - the AGS Development Fund has charitable status, so we can receive gift aid donations.  If you are donating out of UK taxed income, we are able to reclaim the basic-rate income tax which you have paid on your gift - this was 20% from 6/4/2008.  You can work out the amount of tax you can reclaim by dividing the amount donated by four.  This means that for every £1 donated, you can claim an extra 25pence.  In addition, HMRC will automatically pay a further 3pence for every pound donated.  This "transitional relief" - to adjust to the fall in basic rate tax (from 22% to 20%) - is available from 6/4/2008 - 5/4/2011.  To sum up; for every £1 donated, we will receive 28 pence, so the total value of the donation is £1.28.   All you need to do is fill in our Gift Aid Declaration when making your donation.  This scheme has meant that a significant part of our fundraising total to date has actually come from the Inland Revenue!  You can contact us to send you a Gift Aid Declaration or please click on the link below to print off a Donation Form which includes a Gift Aid Declaration.

Higher-rate taxpayers - when a higher rate taxpayer donates by Gift Aid, the charity can still only reclaim basic-rate tax on their donation, however the donor can reclaim the higher-rate portion of tax on the gross value of their donation via their self assessment tax return.  e.g. If a higher-rate taxpayer gave the school £100, it would be worth £128 to the school after reclaiming basic-rate tax, however a donation of £100 would cost a higher-rate tax payer only £77 after they had reclaimed the higher-rate portion of tax.

A Single Gift - If you wish to make a single donation, then please send your gift to the Development Office, Adams' Grammar School, High Street, Newport, Shropshire, TF10 7BD.  If you would like to complete a Gift Aid Declaration to send with your gift, then please click on the link below to print off a Donation Form which includes a Gift Aid Declaration.

A Regular Gift - We welcome regular gifts by monthly, quarterly or annual standing order.  This provides predictable income which helps the School to plan.  To give in this way, please click on the link below to print off a Donation Form which includes a Gift Aid Declaration or you can telephone the Development Office on 01952 386307 and we will send you a Donation Form.  Please return completed forms to the Development Office, Adams' Grammar School, High Street, Newport, Shropshire, TF10 7BD.

A Gift of Shares - Gifts of quoted shares and securities are eligible for income tax relief.  The donor gives their shares to the AGS Development Fund and their taxable income for that year is reduced by the value of the shares on the date they are given.  We have a full brokering service available via the Haberdashers' Company.

Personal or Company dedicated Gifts - You may wish your gift to be dedicated to fund a specific part of a development and it may be possible for this to be formally recognised in some way.  If this is of interest then please click on the link below to print off a Donation Form which includes a Gift Aid Declaration and complete the section relevant to personal or company dedicated gifts.

Legacies - these are of great importance to the school.  The Development Manager will be delighted to provide you with further information if you are considering making a legacy to Adams' Grammar School.  It is very helpful to know of planned legacies, not least so we can thank those who make such an important decision.  All gifts bequeathed to charities such as Adams' Grammar School are free of tax and can reduce the value of the estate for inheritance tax purposes.  Your legal advisor will be able to give further information and the school can give the correct charity title details for legal purposes.

Should you require any further information on any of these aspects of donating to the Development Fund, then please contact Ruth Lloyd, Development Manager, Adams' Grammar School, High Street, Newport, Shropshire, TF10 7BD.  Telephone: 01952 386307. email: ruth.lloyd@adamgs.org.uk.

Thank You - I would like to take this opportunity to thank all past and present donors for their support to our Appeal - it is greatly appreciated and makes a big difference towards us achieving our goals as outlined above.
