Curriculum
Most of our pupils enter the school at age 11. In the first three years all boys study a programme which includes English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Design and Technology, Music, Art, Religious Studies, PE, Citizenship and PSHE.
In addition, we are a Language College and actively encourage the study of a range of languages. In year 7 pupils will study three languages - French, German and Spanish - on a carousel basis. In years 8 and 9 they will choose two of these three languages (if they wish to retain their interest in the third language they can do this through after school clubs, as well as Latin, Polish and Mandarin on this basis.)
We are also a Technology College and place importance on delivering Design and Technology across the curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4.
At age 14+ important subject choices are made and careful guidance is given as befits our Investors in Careers status. A core curriculum is followed and three option subjects selected. Most pupils take 11 subjects at GCSE. Please click on the link below for a copy of the Key Stage 4 prospectus.
In the sixth form we welcome an additional 30 to 40 boys and girls from other schools. All sixth form students have a choice of over 20 subjects to follow at A and AS level. 98% of our sixth formers progress to university. Please see the separate Sixth Form section on this website for more information.
Students' work is closely monitored and homework is an integral part of learning at Adams'. High but realistic targets are set for academic achievement and weekly monitoring of homework diaries takes place. Parents receive further regular communication about their child's progress through a 'half-term grades' progress report.
Our teachers lead by example, motivating students through their own commitment and enthusiasm.
