Adams' Grammar School...is unique.
A Voluntary Aided, selective state grammar school for day pupils and boarders located in the market town of Newport, Shropshire. We welcome boys aged 11-18 as day boys or boarders and girls aged 16-18 as day girls in our sixth form.
800 pupils attend Adams ' Grammar School, including 270 who are in our thriving Sixth Form. . We have three specialisms: we are a Technology College , a Language College and a Training School. Around 100 of our students are boarders; we are extremely proud of our boarding facility, which is an important part of school life and contributes much to the ethos of our school. (You will find out more about boarding at Adams' in a separate section of the site - simply click on Boarding on the left-hand menu).
The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers are our Trustees. In 1656 local benefactor and Haberdasher William Adams founded the school. To this day the Haberdashers' Company maintains a close involvement with our school. Indeed Adams' Grammar School is part of The Haberdashers' Adams' Federation alongside Abraham Darby Academy in Telford.
Headmaster Michael Barratt believes in celebrating success. "Rarely a day goes by without us applauding the achievements of pupils at house, school, regional or national level. Our pupils are an inspiration to many others around them."
"We believe in educating the whole person, equipping our young people to play an active and leading role in society in the twenty-first century. We want pupils to be interesting both in themselves and interested in others. We want them to develop in breadth and in depth - pursuing a wide range of activities to the highest possible standard."
Providing an outstanding learning experience is at the heart of everything we do. We achieve this by enriching pupil experiences both inside and out of the classroom.
Being a school with a long history would make it easy for us to rely on tradition and, in many areas, traditional values do form the centrepiece of our day to day lives. Yet at the same time we are forward-looking in the way we listen to pupils' views, embrace technology and in the way we focus on continual improvement in all parts of the school.
In recent years the school has experienced unprecedented success with its academic results, as well as with its achievement and inclusion of extra-curricular activities. Instead of relaxing into complacency this has fuelled our desire to improve even further; the message we share is that we should never let the successes of the past be the standards we hold in the future. For us, school improvement is a continual process.
Education is a lifelong journey, and we have the privilege of being able to prepare young men and women for the next part of that journey. If you share our philosophy and aspirations and would like to be part of our community we invite you to browse further around our website, request a prospectus but best of all come along and visit Adams' Grammar School and meet some of our inspirational pupils. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss your individual interests and to show you around. Just telephone us and we will make all the necessary arrangements.
