Our Boarding Houses & Staff
Enjoy a warm atmosphere and a comfortable environment
Adams’ boys start their boarding life at the age of 11 at Longford Hall, a beautiful Georgian mansion set in one hundred acres of grounds with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. They are cared for by a Boarding Housemaster and his team of Matrons and Tutors who know each boy personally. They enjoy a warm atmosphere and a comfortable environment. At the age of 14/15 boarders move into senior boarding and continue their boarding life in eighteenth century town houses on the main school site. As at Longford, there is a Boarding Housemaster and his family in residence, Matron and Boarding Tutors.
Meet our Boarding Housemasters
Junior Boarding Housemaster Mr Sam Obeng-Asare has taught at Adams’ for many years as Head of Business Studies and Economics and as a boarding tutor too. He lives on site at Longford Hall with his wife and their two sons.
Having once been a boarder himself, Mr Obeng-Asare understands first-hand what it is like to join the boarding community and the importance of creating a caring and homely environment in which the boys can embrace the many opportunities that are available to them as boarders at Adams’.
To find out what the junior boarders and staff have been up to please take a look at our latest newsletter.
Senior Boarding Housemaster Phil Dolding lives on the main school site, adjacent to Pickin, Roddam and Beaumaris Houses, with his wife Amanda and his young children, Emily, Charlotte and George. Other permanent residents include three chickens and a tortoise! Dr Dolding’s eldest son William is an Adams’ pupil and his eldest daughter Sophie attends Wrekin College.
Dr Dolding has taught Geology and Physics at Adams’ since 1998. Previously he was Head of Clive House from 2007-2014 and Section Commander of the RAF section of the CCF from 2004-2008. He was also a boarding tutor between 2002 and 2007 and became Housemaster in 2014.
Dr Dolding was born a stone’s throw from Charlton Athletic football ground and grew up in Blackheath, London. He attended Colfe’s School before undertaking a BSc at Southampton University, an MSc at Sheffield University and finally a PhD at UCL. Beyond the “academic realm” he enjoys a range of sporting activities such as running, skiing and the Adams’ Triathlon. He will be competing in his 4th London Marathon this spring. Horticulture is his less physical form of relaxation and he is hoping to create a Senior Boarding allotment this year.
