Years 7-10 – Day and Boarding
For those considering entry into the school in Years 7-10, we hold an annual Open Week.
This happens in late September/early October and is an ideal opportunity for boys in Year 5, who are considering taking the Entry Test to take a really good look at the school and to ask questions. Boys in Year 6 who have already taken the test and and received a letter confirming they are of grammar school ability are also very welcome to attend.
After a short presentation by the Headmaster, you and your son will be shown around the school in small groups by the pupils. You will see the school during a normal working day and pupils will take you into classrooms to see the boys and teachers in action. By asking pupils to conduct the tours we know you will receive a genuine insight into school life and they are ideally placed to answer any questions parents or boys have.
After the tour there will be a short presentation about the admissions process with an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.
Open Week 2017
The dates of our 2017 Open Week are yet to be confirmed but will fall towards the end of September, possibly running into October. Normally there is a morning and an afternoon session where the Headmaster will speak for about 45 minutes before families are taken on a tour of the school by pupils in small groups.
Open Week gives you an opportunity to see the school on a normal working day. We do not put on any special classes, demonstrations or events so families and boys get a real impression of what school life is like to help them make a decision about whether Adams’ Grammar School is right for them.
As soon as the dates are confirmed they will be published here.
Sixth Form – Day and Boarding
Sixth Form Open Afternoons are held weekly from October through to early February . Year 11 pupils interested in joining Adams’ for Sixth Form are given a presentation by the Headmaster and shown around the school by current Sixth Form pupils. This is an ideal opportunity to find out more about life in the Sixth Form at Adams’ and to ask any questions you may have. It is also an opportunity to look around the senior boarding houses if you are considering our boarding option.
Full details of our Sixth Form Open Events for students considering applying for a Sixth Form place for September 2016 can be found on our Sixth Form Open Events page.
Boarding Open Events
Junior Boarding Taster Weekends
Boys interested in boarding at Adams’ are invited to spend the night in Longford Hall, the Georgian Mansion which is home to around fifty 11-14 year olds who make up half of our 100 boarders.
During the taster weekend the boys meet some of the staff, including Junior Boarding Housemaster Matthew Skeate, who show them around and organise group activities to help the boys relax and get to know each other. After spending the night in the dormitories the boys enjoy the sort of outing junior boarders normally take part in before their parents return at lunchtime to collect them and find out all about their adventures.
Our next Taster Weekend will be 25th – 26th March 2017
If you would like to attend please ring the school office on 01952 386300 or email firstname.lastname@example.org with your son’s name and date of birth.
Junior Boarding Open Evenings
We hold Boarding Open Evenings throughout the year to give prospective boarders and their parents a chance to view our boarding house in action. The boarders themselves will take you on a tour to give you a real insight into life as an Adams’ boarder at Longford Hall.
Appointments are available from 6.00pm – 7.30pm on the following date:
Thursday 16th March 2017
Please book by contacting the school office on 01952 386300 or email email@example.com.
Senior Boarding Open Events
Tours of Senior Boarding take place as part of the Sixth Form open afternoons which are held on Friday afternoons between October and February. Senior Boarding tours can also be arranged outside of these times by prior arrangement.
As recently announced senior boarding is relocating to a purpose designed building close to the main school site from September 2017. Dates of events to let potential pupils and parents know more about the new boarding facilities will be published here once confirmed.
If you have any queries concerning admission to Adams’ Grammar School please contact the Registrar on (01952) 386300 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org
