“Our teachers lead by example, motivating students through their own commitment and enthusiasm.”
Students’ work is closely monitored and homework is an integral part of learning at Adams’. High but realistic targets are set for academic achievement and weekly monitoring of homework diaries takes place. Parents receive further regular communication about their child’s progress through a ‘half-term grades’ progress report.
Years 7 to 9
Most of our pupils enter the school at age 11. In the first three years all boys study a programme which includes English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, design and technology, music, art, religious studies, physical education, citizenship and personal, social and health education (PSHE). Pupils will also study two languages – French and German.
At age 14+ important subject choices are made and careful guidance is given to support students in their choices. Pupils normally take ten subjects at GCSE in Year 11 consisting of eight core curriculum subjects (English Language, English Literature, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, one humanity and one foreign language) and two chosen additional subjects (art, design technology, French, geography, German, history, ICT, music and physical education). All pupils also follow supplementary courses in PSHE.
In the sixth form we welcome an additional 40 to 50 boys and girls from other schools. All sixth form students have a choice of over 20 subjects to follow at A and AS level. 98% of our sixth formers progress to university. Please see the separate Sixth Form section on this website for more information.
